File name: SCI-SP1.JPG "Science in Space" by Greg Taylor greg.taylor@ccd.tas.gov.au "Science in Space" was created with W-XRay using spheres for all objects except the "Gas giant" planet. The later is a quadric in order to overcome a bug in W-XRay that flattens spheres after the scene file is saved and reloaded. This is my first serious image beyond the usual shiny spheres and chess boards! W-XRay was used, despite it's buggy nature, because of the ability to see the wire frame model and traced image simultaneously. Permiting quick "try it and see" operation. There was also the challenge of creating an image with such a limited set of object primitives. I have recently started using Breeze in conjunction with W32POV which allow a similar method of operation. Object Descriptions: Star field- A large sphere with a Noise texture. Gas Giant- Quadric with a Stripe texture using a multi-coloured palette and Turbulance distortion with X axis stretching to create the elongated clouds. Forground Surface- Large sphere with a Waves texture. Small Moon- Sphere with Waves texture. Radome- Sphere with a X and Y axis rotated (45 degree) Chess texture. Rendering time was 17m48s on a 486DX40 with 4mb RAM. Conversion to jpg and addition of the title was performed with Display v1.88.
