Raytracing Competition -March 95 Author: David Roman Kominek Title: US Robotics Date: start (design): March 14 finish (design): March 17 raytracer: Polyray 1.7 modeller: pencil, a ruler and lots of paper! e-mail: drk@unix.infoserve.net total rendering time: 36 hours and 50 minutes. (132,612 seconds) on a 16MHz 386 w/math-co (at 800x600 antialising adaptive 2 threshold 0.20) Once again, all modelling was done using a pencil, ruler and paper. Since this (my) US Robotics 14400 modem is my vehicle for the autobahn of the Internet, I said to myself why not model it? So I did. The result is quite succesful to my original plans, though, of course, by the time I was half way through the project my views toward the final product have changed. Anyway, finding the maps to scan was tricky. I had to dig up the old box it came in to get image-maps. Rest was straight forward. The texture of the tiles on the floor don't quite give the right bumpyness I was looking for. If anyone knows how to make the bumps so small that the reflection is just slightly distorted, pleas write me (e-mail). Thanx. For all my data entry and design, work I used a text editor, actually PovShell 3.0 (exellent prog). Post image processing done on Piclab 1.91 . feel free to e-mail me any comments, ideas, etc. DRK 95
