mcpiercer.jpg by Mike Clifton, Nov 13, 1994 I found this tool lying around, but I'm not sure what it's for. It looks to me like it might be some sort of primitive body piercing device. How it was done: I know the rules say the images for this competition can be made with any ray-tracer. However, I used a z-buffer renderer for this image. The program is one I created myself (it doesn't have a name yet), and since no one else in the world has it, I didn't upload the scene file. (It wouldn't be legible without the modeling program, anyhow.) All the parts were modeled using my program, as well as all the textures and the rendering. My program is designed for animation, so to get more frames out, I went with a z-buffer instead of ray tracing. I did include shadows and simple relections in the renderer, though. This image, rendered at 640x480 with 2x2 super-sampling took about 5 minutes on a Power Mac 8100/80 (by making the objects "blockier", I could cut this in half). So, I don't know if you people are willing to accept a non ray-tracer, but here's my entry. I'd like to keep going with this competition, as long as any type of rendering program is permitted.
