Raytracing Competition -October 95 Author: David Roman Kominek Title: Quadra Courtyard Date: start (design): October 20 finish (design): October 25 raytracer: Pov 2.2 modeller: pencil, a ruler and lots of paper! e-mail: Lobo@matrix.infomatch.com total rendering time: 1 hour and 12 minutes on a 75MHz Pentium (at 1024x600 with antialiasing at 0.3 ) I got the idea for this image from the University Building that my older brother goes to. It is the Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. All design for this project was done by hand. I started with the pond in the centre of the place. The thing is that once I got about half way through it the scene began looking more like a jail house rather than a school, so I made a sky really dark and moody and then I added weak lights so that I could make one lage spotlight the shines down on the place, you know, like they have in the courtyards in the jails. I made all the windows transparent so you can see in. Actually that turned out quite good, since you can see highlights in the corner of the windows on the top floor from the weak sun pearing in from behind the camera. Only one post-process was done on this image and that, if not obvious is the lens flare. That's all I can think to write about the scene but if you have any questions,... Feel free to e-mail me any comments, ideas, etc. DRK 95
